ANNE Lewis, the daughter of Severn ferry founder Enoch Williams, died at the age of 92.

She, and her late sister, Megan, were keen members of the Chepstow Society and were intensely interested in local heritage, of which their father had been a significant part.

Ferry services began operating between Beachley and Aust on May 18 1931 and Severn Princess made the final crossing on Thursday, September 8 1966.

Anne’s son, Dr Richard Jones, became very involved in the rescue of the Princess, due to the involvement in the early days of Anne’s first husband, Dr Lyn Jones.

Friend Keith Underwood said: “She will be greatly missed by Jack, her second husband, and by Richard, Verity and Philip – and by all her family and friends.
