I read with interest the explanation that the Forest is administered in trust for the people.

Now a few years ago when a local parish council tried to sell the playing field for housing they were challenged by the fact that although the council was acting on behalf of the people, it did not give them the right to sell the land. Result, no housing.

The same legal challenge was made in Penallt and Trellech when the local education authority tried to sell off school buildings.

I have never come across a trust fund that, if it is wound up, the trustees get the money not the beneficiaries of the trust.

Funny word trust. It does not seem to mean very much in these days of new politics and old friends.
