'PAVILION fit for a king!' – What a contrast between the councillors of Coleford and Lydney. Lydney have top class rugby, cricket and football teams all working hard to maintain their league positions, but hampered at every stage by the Recreation Trust's inability to maintain the playing conditions of the recreation ground.
Two years after the three clubs approached the Trust to sort out the drainage issues there has at last been a start on the cricket ground, following the Town Council's offer of a £30,000 loan. Improvements to the football pitch, however, are on hold until the Trust sells one of their assets.
They could have taken this course years ago and prevented all the flooding and ensuing bad feeling between the clubs and the Recreation Trust. A classic case of amateurs pretending they know what they are doing.
Contrast that with Coleford Town Council who have the vision to set out a strategy and the professionalism to plan and implement it. I wish them all the best and hope Lydney councillors take some note of what can be done. – Adrian Bishop, Aylburton.
