The offer of a community fund from the directors of Resilient Energy Great Dunkilns comes at a strange point in the life of the wind turbine at St. Briavels.

It is only a few months since the 'beast of St Briavels' began waving its arms over the village rooftops and yet there is already an enthusiasm to hand over a tiny share of its profits.

Would it be cynical to ask if this benevolent act has anything to do with the pending planning application by the same company for a wind turbine at Alvington Court farm?

If it is, can an Aylburton resident make it clear that such a 'buy off' has been considered by our financially hard-pressed parish councils and soundly rejected. There are many charities that will provide community grants without having to take money from developers, who will if given the opportunity, erect more massive turbines right down the Severn Estuary.

These grants will be used to imply support for the further expansion of wind farms in this area.

The recipients will no doubt have to be photographed, smiling and grateful, adjacent to an industrial-scale turbine nearly 300 feet high.

I hope our Forest planners and councillors will disregard this cheap promotion and reject the applications for further expansion from this and other companies.
