TWO Foresters will receive long-service awards from the Bishop of Gloucester on Sunday, (February 8).

Yvonne Sainsbury of Ruardean and Jean Edwards of Parkend and Viney Hill are among 23 people due to be presented with the badge of St Kyneburga by the Rt Rev Michael Perham.

It will be the first time Bishop Michael will have presented the awards which are named in honour of the eighth century abbess and co-founder of the first religious community on the site of what is now Gloucester Cathedral.

Yvonne Sainsbury has been the organist at Ruardean Church for thirty years and has never taken any fees or salary for playing.

Despite poor health she has continued to play other than when in hospital such is her determination not to let people down.

She worked at Ruardean Church of England Primary School for many years and her parish says of her: "Yvonne is one of those quiet, unassuming humble ones in life whose contribution is often passed by."

Jean Edwards is organist, pastoral assistant and a parish visitor in Parkend and Viney Hill.

She also helps lead the weekly storytellers club at Parkend School, as well as being involved with other children's activities.

She is also a lay worship leader, involved in baptism services, evening services and the monthly tea church @ 3 services.

Jean has been called "a great gift to the parish."

The people being honoured will become the Company of St Kyneburga and it is planned to hold its annual service near St Kyneburga's Day on June 25.

Bishop Michael said: "The Company of St Kyneburga, is a group of people who have served the Diocese of Gloucester with distinction in a way that many wish to honour.

"Members of the Company, having been nominated by others, are admitted to the Company by me and receive their badge of membership at a special service in Gloucester Cathedral."
