MOTORISTS were shocked to find this van in a roadside ditch this morning (Tuesday, November 14) with a smashed windscreen.

Police were called to the scene of the accident on the Bream Road near Lydney at around 8pm yesterday (Monday, November 13).

The driver of the van was treated for a cut head, and the vehicle will be recovered at a later date.

In a separate incident early yesterday evening, a blue Ford Focus car collided with a deer near the Speech House Hotel in the centre of the Forest.

Chris Cooper, who witnessed the crash, commented on Facebook: "There was no speeding. I was driving behind the dustbin lorry which hit the deer into the oncoming ford focus. No one was at fault."
