The Year 5 pupils of Lydbrook Primary School organised a spectacular community variety show in the last week of May.
The many acts included musicians, actors, acrobats and featured both adults from the local community and children from the school.
The audience, of more than 100, were very well entertained for over two and a half hours.
Mr Robert Morgan MBE, a past pupil and governor of Lydbrook School, acted as the senior compere and trained four of the pupils to introduce the acts.
The show was part of a fundraising project, set by headteacher Simon Lusted, for the Year 5 children to raise £1,000, over the year, to subsidise their residential visit to the Isle of Wight.
The Year 5 group all had dedicated roles to ensure the show was well organised.
Apart from the comperes, there were marketing, front of house, box office and stage management teams.
Letters were written to all the acts and to local businesses asking for their support.
The adult acts included Wyldwood Arts, Lydbrook Training Band, Lydbrook Ukele Band, Lydbrook Players, Artspace Circus skills and Five Acres High Steel Pans.
Eva Brain, chair of the fundraising committee, reflected on a very successful event that raised nearly £500.
She said: “All the Year 5 pupils worked really hard and the effort paid off in the end.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank Robert Morgan for his time and advice and all the acts who participated making it such a wonderful occasion.”
Participant Tracy Gwynne-Duggan played piano while her daughter Alice – a former pupil at the school – played a brass instrument.
She said: “It was a memorable evening and one that needs to be repeated. It was an amazing experience for all the children to be part of and such a variety of acts.”
Other fundraising events have included an Easter Egg raffle and cake sale. And the grand total now stands at £968 – very close to the £1,000 target set.
