THERE is always a flood of enthusiasm for entering the Aylburton Flower and Vegetable show and this year's event did not disappoint with plenty of colour to offset the grey skies outside.
Show president and organiser Con Dubois said: "We had an absolutely fantastic day. The only problem to my mind was the lack of youth entries – unfortunately new secretary Gaynor Cooke only took over a short while ago and the children had started the school holidays so it was hard to contact them."
Nevertheless there were some stunning entries from younger people, while Con himself scooped a show best with his leeks.
After moving to Lydney from Aylburton earlier this year Con said he wanted to resign as show secretary. "They said OK but they didn't want to lose me – so they made me president instead," he said.
As usual after the judging everything moves to one of the village pubs – the Cross this year, the George next – where all the exhibits are auctioned, many ending up on dinner plates the next day!
Money raised all goes to keeping the village smart throughout the year.
