TEENAGERS are at the forefront of a renewed surge of interest in cricket at Newnham.

The village team fields sides for under 11s, under 13s and under 15s. All three play in leagues, the 11s and 15s in the Leadon Vale League, and the 13s in the West of Severn League.

Some of the young players in the 15s age group are so promising they could even be included in the club's senior side or play in the Forest Midweek League team. They will certainly have an opportunity to play in the full programme of Sunday friendly fixtures.

Spokesman Dan Keddle said he believed there was a bright outlook for the club.

He said: "The junior section is very strong. They have been kindly sponsored by PSW Ltd and the Watts Group and this has enabled us to purchase club shirts. Additionally, we have been given a Community Fund grant by the Co-op to purchase new training equipment while the Lords Taverners are supplying us with a new mobile net."

The club, he said, had an enthusiastic and dedicated team of coaches but would always welcome others interested in either playing or coaching.
