BLAKENEY has never had an outside war memorial but in the coming week of Remembrance ceremonies there are plans to make the occasion more popular.
Among moves spearheaded by vicar the Rev Juliet Stephenson are plans to create a memorial garden in the village churchyard.
"It seems a shame that the names of the villagers who gave their lives are not commemorated for passers by to stumble upon and read," said Rev Stephenson.
"There is a beautiful war memorial and stained glass window inside the village church, but many people fail to acknowledge that it is there at all.
"In recent years the numbers of people attending church services on Remembrance Sunday has been disappointingly low, which is why the church members this year have decided to erect a flag and create a memorial garden."
Crosses provided by the Royal British Legion will be placed in the garden, each one named from the church memorial tribute.
"We hope that the village will support the service this year and stand together to recognise the sacrifices that are still being made today by the men and women who serve in the Armed Forces."
People will gather at 10.30am ready for a 10.45am start on Sunday November 13.
