DON'T read too much into the result of Alvington and Woolaston's overwhelming victory over Lydney's Third Xl in this Cheltenham and Gloucester division one game.
The Villages were set a total of 87 to win and did so without loss with Rob Ragland smashing a powerful 68.
But praise for the teenage Lydney team came from Charlie Edwards who said they were strong opponents who did not deserve to lose so heavily.
"They were very young and we were very old ... some of us very, very old. In fact some people call us the Wrinklies X1," joked Edwards who returned figures of five for five.
"You have to give them some praise. They are learning and learning fast and their team included some very promising young players.
Third XI captain Colin Cherry said it was club policy to field a team of youngsters.
"I have only been with the club a couple of years but I have spent a lot of time coaching youngsters. It is the club policy to play a third X1 of young players and it is paying off. Lydney is fortunate to have a lot of rapidly improving young players in its ranks and that is not a situation which applies to many clubs," he said.
On Saturday Cherry had to play a leading role and top scored with 22 while Joe Longton impressed with a neat 18.
Meanwhile Alvington and Woolaston have an eye on the possibility of promotion.
"We are third in the league and going quite well. If we can stop the teachers teaching and the farmers farming we have quite a reasonable team so we are in with a shout," said Edwards.
