A FOREST village’s annual charity scarecrow display broke records for the number of creations and the amount raised.
The 42 games-themed scarecrows dotted around Tutshill drew in more than 2,500 visitors from as far as Birmingham and beyond and raised more than £2,000 from the sale of 698 quiz sheets.
The results show was held at Tutshill School with games and refreshments.
The ‘people’s favourite’ was the Monopoly board which was made by the McBride family with assistance from Steve Chapman and the Tithe Barn residential home near Ross-on-Wye.
Second was Mousetrap, based on the 1970s classic, by Nick and Sarah Lewis and 1980s arcade favourite Pac-Man – transformed by Kath Northfield and family – was third.
There were five winning entries with all of the correct answers came from the Cook family; Kate, Edie and Al Rutherford; Daisy Proctor; Caroline Jones and Ryan and Sophie McBride.
The money raised will be split between the refurbishment of St Luke’s Church in Tutshill and the Lily Foundation.
The Lily Foundation supports research into mitochondrial disease which is a term given to a range of disorders of cells.
Vicar of Tidenham, Rev David Treharne, said:
“It was a delight to see this fantastic community event engaging people of all ages and giving enormous pleasure to so many again this year.
“Massive thanks to the scarecrow trail organising team who once again worked their socks off organising this event on behalf of the church here in Tidenham parish.
“Thanks too to all those who displayed such imagination and creativity in producing the scarecrows.”
Many of the Scarecrows have been donated to the Tithe Barn, near Ross-on Wye, a specialist care home which provides support for individuals with learning difficulties and challenging behaviour and they will continue to give many months of pleasure as part of a woodland trail in the grounds.
The theme of next year’s trail has been decided by a public vote for the first time and will be children’s books and stories.
