VINEY St Swithins Sports and Social Club in Lydney was the setting for a charitable giving bonanza on Monday evening, as organisers of the Speech House Vintage Show presented a total of £4,800 to six good causes.

Sharon Vickers, spokesperson for the Forest Vintage Vehicle and Mach-

inery Club, said: “The Speech House event broke records in terms of the numbers attending. Thousands of people came through the gates on September 11.

“It was a great success which enables the club to give something back to the local community. At the presentation on Monday we gave a cheque for £800 each to Forest Pulse, Great Oaks Hospice, the Friends of Lydney Hospital, the League of Friends of Dilke Hospital, Severn Area Rescue Association (SARA) and Great Western Air Ambulance.”

The event last month featured a large number of vintage vehicles, including steam engines, an armoured personnel carrier and vintage tractors. Music and plenty of activities on offer kept the crowds entertained.

Joan Norris volunteers at the Great Oaks charity shop in Lydney and said: “We’re very pleased indeed to receive these funds. The Vintage Club is very supportive of our work and also let us hold a stall at the event where we raised another £631. We rely on fundraising like this – they’re really good to us.”
