I WRITE in response to your reader's letter concerning the poor state of the bonfire site on the Speech House field.

It has been normal practice to clear the site of debris a few days after the annual bonfire night, repair the ground and seed it. Unfortunately the ground remained waterlogged and therefore in consultation with the owners of the field, Mr and Mrs Hands, it was decided to delay clearing the site to prevent further damage to the field by vehicles and machinery.

Regrettably the inclement weather has continued, but renovation will take place when ground and climate conditions are considered suitable.

A lot of hard work had gone into preparing the site for the event but sadly the loss of revenue has significantly reduced the funds available for dissemination within the local community by the Lions clubs.
