THE organisers of Lydney Festival are desperately seeking a mural painter ahead of their big Docks event this Saturday (June 23).
It's the day of Lydney Yacht Club's 50th anniversary and it will be marked with Yacht Club events, live music and demonstrations from Sea Cadets, the SARA lifeboats and much more.
The artwork will go on a board 8ft by 12ft and is usually on a river and boating theme, says Festival organiser Derek Biddle. After the event it will remain on display at the barrier at the entrance to the Docks.
"We are pretty desperate and we need somebody who can work fast," he said. If you can help, he can be contacted on 07789 071960.
•Lydney Yacht Club members are encouraging even more people to get out on the water on Saturday by holding a Sail for Gold 'Have a Go' day.
Starting at 9.30am there will be a whole host of activities on offer for people to come and try sailing. A fleet of dinghies will be available to take visitors out. All safety equipment will be provided and a skilled helm will show much fun can be had sailing on the River Severn. "It might be wise to bring a change of clothing," they advise.
Lydney's 'Have a Go' sessions are part of a nationwide initiative from sailing's governing body, the Royal Yachting Association, to bring the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games as close to home as possible for everyone, regardless of where people live.
Lydney's Commodore, Eric Witheridge, said: "Whether you want to get back into the sport or simply try something new with the family, we are delighted to welcome people of all ages and abilities. It would be fantastic if through London 2012 and Sail for Gold we can inspire a whole new generation of people in the Forest of Dean and Gloucestershire to get out onto the water and discover a new favourite pastime."
