Cinderford Town 1, Burnham 2

IT was a game of near misses as mid table Cinderford played Burnham at home on Saturday.

New manager Mike Davis took over the squad mid season and says after seeing them play 12 or 13 games, he has big plans for next season.

"I was not particularly pleased with the result on Saturday," said Mike. "It was a game we should have won given the number of chances we created."

In a closely fought first half Cinderford hit the post three times and were guilty of wasting a number of other scoring opportunities.

An outstanding performance from the Burnham goalkeeper helped to rob Cinderford of victory.

"We played well and I was pleased with the overall performance, but I was less pleased with our ability to convert chances to scores," said Mike.

"Within the first 20 minutes we could have been two or three goals up. We conceded two quick goals in the second half. We need to be more clinical in the final third."

The home side let in two goals in the second half, but right back Kristian Witcombe pulled one back from the penalty spot on the hour.

Cinderford continued to put the Burnham defence under pressure, but couldn't make their dominance count and were left empty-handed.

Mike said he was confident about the team's prospects for the coming season.

He said: "I inherited a group of players who play well away, but their home form leaves a lot to be desired.

"Progress has already started in preparation for next season. I will be sitting down with players individually and discussing my plans for the side.

"Some players will come and some will leave, inevitably – it's the nature of football."
