LYDNEY'S tag as a ghost railway station was lifted this week when Wales and Borders Trains announced a return to an – almost – normal service.

A spokesman for the company said it was planned that the full service would be implemented at Lydney, Chepstow and Caldicot by January 5.

The full service had been disrupted by a dispute involving drivers working rest days. There has been a reduced service since October 28.

It meant that no trains stopped at the three stations during the day and brought an outcry from local rail users.

The service was partially reintroduced this week.

"The lifting of the rest-day working ban means that we will be able to reinstate services which were affected and this will be done gradually between December 14 and January 4," said a spokesman.

The services reinstated at Caldicot, Chepstow and Lydney are:

1243 Newport to Gloucester (dep Severn Tunnel Junction 1300, Caldicot at 1303, Chepstow at 1311, Lydney at 1320, arr Gloucester at 1340).

1353 Gloucester to Newport (dep Lydney 1412, Chepstow at 1421, Caldicot at 1430, Severn Tunnel Junction at 1433, arr Newport 1450).

1553 Gloucester to Newport (dep Lydney at 1612, Chepstow at 1621, Caldicot at 1630, Severn Tunnel Junction at 1633, arrive Newport 1647)

The company says all services will run normally from January 5.
