THIS year's Westbury Carnival was "the best ever" with hundreds of people enjoying the science fiction theme.

It was also memorable for one of the village's newest residents - Kate Harris only moved to Westbury a fortnight before but won the £200 prize draw.

The prize for the best float went to Westbury School with their Men in Black theme and the best walking entries were Jurassic Park by the Morgan and Ward families with costumes by Amanda Ward and a Dr Who Dalek and Cyberman by Alan Hyett and Lucia Felici.

Organiser Joe Liddington said: "It was a brilliant day and we can honestly say it was the best-ever.

"People made a real effort with their entries and there was loads for visitors to do.

"The parade was led by the A W Parker Drybrook Band who were excellent.

"I'd like to thank all those who helped set everything up and get it back down.

"There's a great community spirit in Westbury and it was really demonstrated on carnival day."
