A DEBATE in Monmouth will explore what Brexit means to young people.

David Davies, Monmouth MP and Katherine Fookes, former Welsh Assembly candidate for Labour in Monmouth, will form a panel to answer questions on topics that will range from education, employment, the economy, civil rights, agriculture and the NHS.

This is the first event to be organised by the newly-formed Monmouthshire Youth Parliament (MYP).

Founder of this political initiative, Beth Handley, said: “The audience will all be under-18 and will be questioning the politicians on how they believe Brexit will affect them. It promises to be a stimulating and probably heated event.

“In response to the political turmoil in the country, we have formed an organisation that aims to provide a forum for young people so that we can discuss politics in a respectful and stimulating environment. We want to represent people from every political background and also to provide young people with a much needed voice.”

MYP’s second event will involve a debate on whether 16-year-olds should be given the vote. This will take place in the Shire Hall court room on Friday, October 7.

Beth added: “Any young person is welcome to attend these events, but if you would like to get involved or need more information, contact the organisers at [email protected] or find them on Facebook.”

It takes place on Friday (September 23) between 5pm and 6pm.
