IN REPLY to John T. of Drybrook re Palmers Flat (Review, March 15).

I was brought up at Lower Palmers Flat, adjacent to the Coalway to Parkend road.

The other Palmers Flat on the Coalway to Milkwall road was always referred to as Palmers Flat or higher Palmers Flat, not Palmers Hill.

Most of the houses where I lived in the early days were rented so maybe the owner was called Palmer?

Otherwise I've no idea how the name originated.
