CHRISTMAS is a time for giving. This is a plea from Age Concern Forest of Dean to anyone out there with some free time (even just an hour) and would like to help out someone less fortunate than themselves.

Although the prolonged period of cold weather presents all of us with one problem or another, it particularly affects older members of our community, who are more vulnerable then ever through the effect of prolonged freezing temperatures.

All our services are dependent on sufficient volunteers to run them.  Volunteer drivers deliver hot meals, providing a regular watching eye over our service users at the same time.  Befriending volunteers provide regular visits to socially isolated members of our community, often being the only contact with the outside world.  Support is also provided by volunteers to older people on discharge from hospital and who are without the benefit of a care package.  Our Information and Advice service provides the link to all other statutory and voluntary services.

Whilst we are blessed with a wonderful team of volunteers we desperately need more.  Why not give us some of your time by volunteering?  Who knows, you may make some great new friends along the way at the same time as feeling good about helping others!  Regular volunteer get-togethers are organised and you would be fully supported by Age Concern staff.

Please call us on Dean 845621. If we are not in the office at the time you call, please leave a message and we will call you back.
