MITCHELDEAN’S Wilderness Centre has recently been awarded the prestigious Association of Heads of Outdoor Centres (AHOEC) gold standard badge.

Office manager Deborah Blackmore said: “The Wilderness is the only centre within a 50 mile radius to have achieved this award and one of only 50 centres in the whole country, out of a total of about 500. 

“The AHOEC gold standard inspection measures all aspects of the centre from administration and communication, facilities, food, the quality of learning and adventure and its educational validity.

“Overall the centre was assessed as ‘excellent’, while achieving ‘outstanding’ in many areas.  Due to the high standard of the accreditation, the centre also received its Adventure Mark and Learning Outside the Classroom quality badges.  We are extremely proud to have been awarded this certification.”
