WORSHIPPERS took to the streets on Good Friday as part of the Easter celebrations.

Walks of Witness took place across the Wyedean, including in Lydney and Monmouth, to mark the death of Jesus.

In Lydney, the Walk of Witness started at the Christian Fellowship Church following a service and finished with music and celebrations outside the Co-op in Newerne Street, with passers-by also being offered hot cross buns.

In Monmouth, more than 100 worshippers set off in beautiful sunshine from beside St Thomas’ Church and walked behind the cross over the new bridge and beside the former cattle market, before congregating for a service next to Monnow Bridge.

Pastor Ian Roberts of Wyesham Christain Fellowship, shared the carrying of the cross at the head of the procession with Tudor Lewis and Jim Aston.

He said: “It’s a privilege to carry the cross through the town on this, the most poignant day in the Christian calendar.

“As Christians, we feel it’s very important to come out and show our faith today.

“Perhaps God is a lesser part in people’s modern lives, but we feel it’s important to witness what he has done for all of us.

“The walk has been organised by Monmouth Churches Together and they are all playing a part in the procession and the service.”

The service included a puppet show telling the story of Christ’s arrest by the Centurions.
