VANDALS have laid waste a memorial garden made in memory of a much-loved teacher at a Cinderford school.

Staff and pupils returned to St White's School, Cinderford, on Monday to find the garden, constructed and planted in memory of special needs teacher Sally Ball, had been destroyed.

"It is very sad. Sally was a much loved teacher who died from leukaemia. Quite naturally everyone is very upset," said a school spokesperson.

Flower arrangements were destroyed, tubs overturned, plants ripped up and wooden animals broken.

Much of the work was carried out by governors and members of staff and the children last summer.

Many parents gave gifts of plants.

After a staff meeting on Monday teachers cleared up much of the mess and will now organise working parties to replant the garden.

The names of suspects have already been given to the police and more information is being sought. Anyone who can help should telephone Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
