ANYONE who wants to try yoga can shape up to help tackle the scourge of human trafficking as part of a worldwide community event.

Yoga teachers Ali Rose and Carolyn Thomas will be hosting a Yoga Stops Traffick session at the Community Centre in Yorkley on Sunday, March 5.

The event will be raising awareness and funds to support the victims of trafficking and is being organised by Kim Spencer.

Kim says: “I am really grateful to Carolyn and Ali for agreeing to help out with this. The idea is to do a number of sun salutations, the most famous of yoga sequences, and they will demonstrate some easy and more difficult options at the beginning.

“This is yoga for everyone - parents, children, grandparents, beginners, old hands, couch potatoes, fitness freaks, women and men alike. It’s a great chance to try it out if you’ve not done yoga before.”

Five years ago, Kim’s son volunteered for a year at the Odanadi Seva Trust in Mysore, India, which provide rehabilitation, shelter, education and love to victims of human trafficking.

Kim has visited Odanadi, stayed in touch with their work and will be visiting again in November to see how the money raised globally is being spent.

Last year, funds raised by Yoga Stops Traffick helped provide a home for 95 children at Odanadi Seva Trust rehabilitation centres.

Yoga Stops Traffick participants helped pay for food, electricity, running water and contributed to the salaries of 22 social workers, psychotherapists, administrative and educational staff.

The Yorkley event will run from 10.30am to 1.30pm, and the organisers are asking for a donation of at least £5 to take part. Children go free, but must be accompanied by an adult.

There will be refreshments, home-made cakes and a raffle too. Take a yoga mat along if you have one, and perhaps a blanket if kneeling is difficult.
