THE youngsters of Bream have green fingers when it comes to growing monster sunflowers.

For a handful of seeds "more or less chucked in the garden" of young Melanie Widdowson's home has produced this forest of bright yellow blooms.

Melanie's mum, Jane Widdowson, said: "I've never seen anything like it. They are huge. We can't see of of the window."

She said she and Melanie had been growing sunflowers every year as part of a school project but this year they hadn't bothered until they came across the seeds, thought it was too late, and scattered them in the garden.

Nobody had been more surprised than she was when the forest sprouted – and it was still growing.
