MORE than 100 young musicians showed their talents at a special Christmas concert.

The South Monmouthshire Music Centre meets on Fridays at Chepstow School and offers the chance to play in a group or orchestra.

The centre is organised by the Gwent Music Support Service and is free for the young musicians.

The annual concert at Chepstow Leisure Centre featured nine groups and orchestras: the junior wind band, the foundation band, junior strings, the South Monmouthshire Big Band, the guitar orchestra, celtic ensemble, senior strings, senior wind band and the early years groups which includes children as young as three.

The concert featured a wide range of music including traditional Christmas music, popular tunes and arrangements of rock songs.

The sports hall at Chepstow Leisure Centre was packed for the concert with parents and friends and local dignitaries including the Mayor of Chepstow Councillor Henry Hodges and the Chairman of Monmouthshire Council Councillor Brian Hood.

Councillor Hood said: "We have heard very talented young people and I am proud that the county council supports something as worthwhile as the South Monmouthshire Music Centre."
