THE Forest Flyers, the local roller hockey club, is looking for more members.
After a hugely successful two years the club is expanding from two to three teams and wants additional youngsters aged from five to 15 to take part in weekly training sessions at Chepstow Leisure Centre and in fortnightly games played in a league at Chippenham.
The club was started by Lydney brothers Paul and Jimmy Russell after their own children became interested in the sport.
"They had roller-blades as presents and used to play around nearby garages. We decided to try and get things running in a more organised way and that is how the club was formed," explained Paul.
Now they have members from all parts of the Forest and from Chepstow.
They have two youngsters in the South West of England team, 12 year-olds Gavin Edmunds, a pupil at Lakers School, Berry Hill, and Lee Martin, a pupil at Lydney's Whitecross.
The sport is open to boys and girls and there are teams for Minnows (aged five to nine), Peewees (aged 10 to 12) and a newly formed youth side for 12 to 15 year olds.
In two years the club has raised £3,000 for equipment while local businesses such as Wyevern Garage, Kevin J. Toombs and Lydney Pallets have also provided support.
"We train at Chepstow every Thursday evening from 5.30pm until 7pm and we play every other week in the Chippenham League. If anyone would like to have a go they will be more than welcome," said Paul.
The club provides kit and all youngsters need are their own rollers.
The season starts next month and runs until November.
