COACHES at Chepstow Boxing Club were delighted with the skills shown by their boxers on an evening with six of their eight competitive matches resulting in wins.
Head coach Steve Woods, who leads a team of four along with Doug Lewis, Colin Fear and Rameece Rouf, said: “We thought it was a brilliant night with a fantastic turn-out and our best-ever takings on door.”
The evening at the Severn Bridge Club in Bulwark started with a skills show with Chepstow’s Terry Mullane and Dylan Davies of Cwmcarn.
Mr Woods said: “Eight-year-olds are now allowed in the ring to show their skills and Terry showed some great skills.
Twelve-year-old Kayd Dean, in his first contest, lost a split decision against taller southpaw Ethan Wilkinson of Barton Hill, Gloucester but the Chepstow boxer showed promise.
The bout of the evening was between Gussy Cash – in Chepstow colours for the first time – and Makenzi McNamie with Gassy earning a unanimous nod from the judges.
Tommy Dolan boxed well to win over Logan Williams of Tylorstown in the Rhondda while Luke Connor faced Damien Nash of King Alfred’s in Burnham-on-Sea.
Each boxer had identical records but Luke chose his shots and kept on coming forward to gain a unanimous decision.
Patrick Larkin had a ‘messy’ win against Ryan Fry of Cwmavon Hornets in Port Talbot, defending well against the southpaw.
Elijah Carrol, in his first contest, showed great promise in his victory over Arron Kinsella of the
Coed Eva club in Cwmbran.
Mr Woods said Elijah’s first round performance was one of the best he had seen.
With some 30 members, it is impossible to get all Chepstow’s boxers active on one bill so during the interval its fighters with international honours entered the ring.
