WHITECROFT A has won its first trophy since it was formed in the early 1990s.

The side beat Coleford United Reserves coming back from 1-0 down thanks to two goals from James Barnard.

Manager Ricky Mayhew said: "The side was formed 20 years ago and this is the first time we've won anything.

"Our third side does not normally enter the Charities Cup but we've had an influx of players into the club so we decided to give it a go.

"At first it was about giving players match time and getting the fitness levels up.

"But the further you go the more importance you attach to it.

"We are absolutely delighted to have won the trophy."

He also thanked the 150 supporters who travelled down to Lydney for the game on Sunday afternoon.

He said: "They were our 12th man."

Whitecroft play in the second division of the North Gloucestershire League and are currently in fourth place.

"We are hoping that we can win the league," said Ricky.
