A PROMISING young footballer from Caldicot has been signed up by Football League club Newport County.

Alex Edwards, who is 12, plays centre half and his dedication to the sport has earned him a place in County’s academy system.

But Alex is not the only gifted footballer in his family to have caught the eye of the professionals at Newport.

Recently we reported on 15-year-old Mack Sadler who plays in goal and is also at the academy.

Alex and Mack, who comes from Alvington, are second cousins.

Alex’s granddad Colin Harris, who also lives in Caldicot, said: “It must be unusual to have two members of the same family being signed up like that.

“We’re very proud of Alex – he loves his football and is totally dedicated.”
