LYDNEY amputee Andy Lewis has brought home a gold medal after taking on the world in a triathlon in Madrid.

Andy finished the season on a high at the Elite ITU World Paratriathlon event after a busy summer.

After months of training and learning to swim with support from local swim coach, Jess Bollen and team GB coaches, Andy proved to be the fastest in his field finishing five minutes in front of his rival to secure the gold medal and 10 minutes in front of his GB team mate.

He said: "It was a hilly course and very technical, I used the local hills around Lydney and Wales to train for this one. I felt strong and had a lot to prove to assist me going forward for next year."

The family man now plans to take a long earned rest to prepare for his next season and catch-up with family and friends.

Andy – along with other local triathletes and Severn Valley Cycles – will help to finalise a triathlon squad/club in Lydney over the forthcoming months and assist others wanting to participate in the sport for the first time.
