MORE than three quarters of the 270 runs scored in this Friday evening derby came from three batsmen. Monmouth's Josh Grey and the home side's Gareth Ansell and Alyn Franklin between them hit 207 runs.
Grey was the top run scorer with an undefeated 81 which included two sixes and five fours while Franklin also locked out the bowlers hitting a six and seven fours in a knock of 67.
Chepstow are currently second in the first division of the Thomas Carroll Glamorgan and Monmouthshire league while Monmouth are mid-table in division three.
The visitors won the toss and elected to bat and it took a while for Chepstow to make the breakthrough, Jamie Rayner bowling Ben Turner for 32 to make it 65-1.
Just five had been added to the score when Oliver Grey was bowled by Tudor Morgan-Huggett for one. Monmouth looked in trouble when Rayner struck again to make it 75-3, bowling Jonathan Jones.
Ollie Vickers was caught by Ansell off the bowling of Richard Monk for 14 to make it 122-4.
Matthew Jones came in and helped his side add 17 to the score although he did not get onto the run sheet himself.
Chepstow were well on the way to victory when Ansell was bowled for 59 with 123 runs under the home side's belt.
Monmouth's stand-out performer, Grey, ran out Tuhin Gavand for one to make it 128-2 but with just a dozen runs required the result was beyond doubt.
Gareth Jones chipped in four as Chepstow reached the target with 4.5 overs to spare.
On Saturday Chepstow followed it up by thrashing Usk by 120 runs in the league.
The home side posted 208-9 with 60 from David Monk, 41 from Franklin and 40 by Ansell.
In reply Usk were skittled out for 88 with three wickets for Jason Dobbie, two each for Monk and Tudor Morgan-Huggett and one for Mitchell Harris.
