YOUNG grasstrack riders Callum and Lily Mae Walker are among the best of British.
The brother and sister from Whitecroft were third and fourth in their categories at the British Championships.
Grasstrack is similar to speedway over four laps and the 250cc bikes ridden in Callum's class are designed to travel at high speed with the skill being to ride into the corners with no brakes and lots of throttle.
Callum rides a Jawa 250cc bike and it was the first time he has managed to get a podium finish.
The achievement was even greater as he had only had the bike for a week before the championships.
The 13-year-old pupil at Whitecross School, Lydney has been competing since he was seven and his ambition is to become British number one.
He was presented with his trophy at the Auto Cycle Union's awards dinner in Northampton by world longtrack rider Andrew Appleton.
Dad James Walker said: "We are so proud of him. It's been five years of ups and downs but his dedication to racing has proved he can do it.
"We'd like to thank Barry Powell of Cinderford for being mechanic on the day as I'm still learning about the new bike.
"We'd also like to thank the local companies who are sponsoring us."
Lily-Mae Walker, a pupil at Pillowell School, rode to fourth place in the cadet class on her purpose-built bike with a 60cc engine.
