LYDNEY travelled to Cinderford for a CMA League triples game but found their hosts far from hospitable on the green with the home side taking the honours in a keenly-contested local derby.

The CMA League features four Forest teams and Monmouth and is one of two leagues in the area, giving plenty of scope for those looking for competitive sport.

Brian Clark, of Cinderford Bowls Club, said: "It was a good local derby and Cinderford won."

In line with national trends the club is struggling to find new members despite the wide range of sporting opportunities on offer.

Mr Clark said: "Whether you want a social game or to compete at league level you can be accommodated.

"We are looking for new members such as people who have retired from games such as cricket but want to continue participating in sport.

"Anyone can come along to the club at 6pm on Wednesdays and have a few games and see if they like it. The club is in Steam Mills next to the school.

"We are also involved with partially-sighted bowls and we have had a couple of internationals from the club."
