CHEPSTOW Amateur Boxing Clubs welcomed boxers from as far away as London and Swansea for its show on Friday evening.

There were 12 well-matched bouts that all went the distance with local boxers finishing the evening with three victories and three defeats.

Head coach, Steve Woods said: “It was a fantastic evening of boxing and all the bouts went the distance which means they were well matched.

“There were about 150 people in the audience and the atmosphere was electric.”

The club also welcomed British champion Rosie Eccles, who started her boxing career at Chepstow four years ago, and will box in the European championships next month.

Chepstow coach, Doug Lewis said: “We at Chepstow Amateur Boxing Club are immensely proud of Rosie and all that she has achieved.”

This weekend Welsh champion Pat Mullane, who won his bout on Friday, will again train with the national squad.

Four Chepstow boxers – Codi Leamon, Jude Holmes, Luke Connor and Zak Parsons – will box at the Welsh novice championships next week.

The club recently benefited from a donation from the Lions Club of Chepstow and Caldicot for equipment. Gwent-based We Fight Any Claim.com also met decoration costs for the gym in Lower Church Street.
