Lydney 58-3 (11 overs) v Ruardean Hill 57-8 (20 overs)

BOWLERS Jack Knox and Edward Jones each picked up three wickets as Lydney booked their placed in the semi-final of the Verderers’ Cup.

Ruardean lost the toss and were put in to bat but found it difficult to get any rhythm from the start.

Young spinner Knox claimed the wicket of Ruardean opener Richard Hoult, and his team’s highest scorer with 17.

Hoult was caught by Connor Mullan and six more wickets went when the ball went to hand.

Knox also dismissed Aaron Underwood who was caught by Jack Batcock and Nick Jayne who went to a diving catch by Phil Lewis.

Jones’s bowling saw off Bobby Brown, who was also caught by Batcock, Daniel Matthews and Kieran Lilley who were caught by Jake Bonser and Jack O’Connell respectively.

Tom Penson was caught by James Bishop off the bowling of Lewis and opener Tim Yemm was bowled by Callum Miller.

Despite the relatively modest target, Lydney openers Jake Bonser and Adrian Knox set about the task with alacrity.

Adam Cole bowled Bonser, who top scored with 26, and Knox for one.

Cole was also involved in dismissing third wicket James Bishop, catching him for seven off the bowling of Kieran Lilley.

Batcock and Jordan Stone saw Lydney home with six and 11 respectively.

Lydney face Forest Exiles tonight (Wednesday) and the other semi-final is between Cinderford St John’s and Goodrich.
