Bream I 128-3 (21.3 overs) v Monmouth III 127 all out (30.1)

-------------

A KNOCK of 57 for Monmouth III by Pete Simmons was not enough to secure a win away to Bream’s first XI.

Bream won the toss and, with a lush green pitch at Bathurst Park in Lydney offering assistance to bowlers, the visitors were put in.

Simmons opened the batting with Kieran Shaw who fell to the bowling of Ian Powell for four. The bowler also claimed the wicket of Joe Atkinson who was caught for a duck by Christopher Farr.

Paul Edwards – who would later dismiss Simmons – claimed the first of his four wickets when Adrian Whitehead also went for four.

Edwards had Tony Brennan caught by Garth Whiteman Smith for 15 and brought the Monmouth innings to a close when he caught and bowled Shannon Maguire before he had got off the mark.

The other Bream bowlers to take wickets were George Stratford who bowled Ian Ridyard for 11 and Farr who had Neil Saunders caught by Mark Warby for 17.

Bream were well on the way to victory when Edwards had to retire with 32 runs to his name.

He was replaced on 78-1 by Mark Allan who was bowled for 12 by Kieran Shaw with the score at 95.

Dan Millin claimed the second half century of the day when he was also bowled by Shaw.

Millin went to the pavilion having scored 52 but with only a single run being added to the score following the dismissal of Allan.

Dave Beddis and Chris Farr guided Bream to the target, scoring 16 and 12 respectively.
