A STEADY performance with the bat across the card gave Ruardean Hill Seconds their first win of the season.

Three Ruardean batsmen scored more than 20 and two went beyond 30 as the home side set a target of 209.

Lucia Carini-Roberts was the pick of the visiting bowlers with 3-42.

Ruardean won the toss and elected to bat.

Openers Martin Symonds and Neil Cartwight went to the bowling of Matt Pickett with Symonds having his wickets clattered for 13 and Cartwright caught by Steve Gooch for 32.

Pickett was also involved in the dismissal of top scorer Kieran Lilley, catching him for 38 off the bowling of Chris Gurney.

Alexander Whitehouse picked up the next two wickets, bowling Mitchell Bourne while Aaron Barnett was caught by Tom Chick.

Carini Roberts bowled Nicholas Cornwell and Nathan Hawkins for 24 runs each.

Mitchell Bourne took four wickets for 18 runs as Ruardean halted Aston Ingham 66 runs short.

Kieran Lilley took 3-33 and Aaron Barnett 2-16.

The other wicket was claimed by Neil Cartwright.

The visitors’ top scorers were skipper Tom Chick and George Aubrey who each scored 29.
