DAVID Stansfield was named boxer of the night at Chepstow Amateur Boxing Club's show on Friday night.

The Chepstow boxer was up against Hugh Francis of the Towy club based in Ammanford, west Wales.

It was a close encounter with Stansfield getting the nod from all the judges after Francis received a standing eight count in the third round.

First into the ring for Chepstow was Zak Parsons in an exhibition against the more experienced Joe Freeman of Droitwich.

It was the first time through the ropes for Zak who kept up a good work rate forcing the Midlands boxer backwards throughout the contest.

Chepstow's former Welsh champion Keiron Woods came out top in a rematch with Droitwich's Clarence Hall.

Woods' speed and accuracy won him a unanimous decision from the judges.

James Hobbs won on all the judges' cards against Jack Hays of the Walcot club in Swindon.

Sean Gibbs, in his first contest, lost on points to the taller Freddie de Giles, who also boxes for Walcot, who used his superior range.

The shortest match of the night featured Chepstow's undefeated Rosie Eccles who exploded from her corner with a fierce onslaught of accurate boxing.

The corner of Walcot's Rishelle Dillon threw in the towel after just 50 seconds.

Aidan Hampsey of Chepstow missed out when his opponent pulled out at the last minute and it was too late to find a replacement.
