LYDNEY Angling Club's second annual charity match raised over £250. The money has been donated towards the cost of a Memorial Garden at the 1Rifles HQ at Beachley.
Fished at Lydney"s Recreation Trust Lake on Sunday, anglers from all parts of the Forest and even South Wales took part.
Club spokesman Mark Annis said it was hoped the competition would grow to become a major event in the club's calendar.
Mark said: "It started as a way to compensate for the loss of all the equipment belonging to the junior section which was stolen a couple of years ago. Our hope is to get some sponsorship and to select a different charity each year."
Fishing was varied throughout the five hour competition.
"They are starting to spawn and congregate together. It meant some fishermen were out of luck but it was a good competition," said Mark.
Top weight and a cash prize plus a rod donated by Wye Angling, of Ross-on-Wye, was achieved by Bernie Fraser who caught 34lbs. Close behind, Graham Smith weighed in 32lbs 1oz. Third and fourth places went to father and son Chris and Matt Peters. Chris weighed in 26lbs 4oz and Matt 15lbs 9oz.
