LYDNEY Angling Club's annual charity match was well supported with 35 anglers in action at Lydney Lake on Sunday.

But while the weather was not ideal it did not put off the anglers who raised an impressive £500 for the Children's Opportunity Centre in Coleford.

Paul Grindle, of Lydney Angling Club, said: "We have a charity match every year for a different charity and this year it was the Children's Opportunity Centre.

"We had 35 anglers taking part, most Lydney AC members but we had a few from further afield and we could have had more but we would have needed a bigger lake.

"It was nearly all bream that was taken during the day."

The winner was Graham Smith of Lydney with 27lbs 12oz which was 1lb 2oz more than second-placed Andrew Davis with 26lbs 10oz.

Third was Chris Peters with 18lbs 6oz and fourth was Roger Andrews with 13lbs 8oz.

Lydney Angling Club has a full programme with matches most weekends throughout the summer.

The total raised was increased thanks to prizes donated by Forest Tackle of Lydney, Wye Angling of Ross-on-Wye and Hales of Drybrook.
