LYDNEY rugby officials expect to announce a new coaching set-up this week. It following news of the selection of flanker Will Jones as captain for next season.

Speaking ahead of Monday evening's annual meeting held at Regentsholme, chairman John Nelmes said talks about future arrangements had been ongoing for some weeks.

"We are grateful to everyone who played a part in an exciting season and especially the last few weeks. Regardless of what people might have read we particularly want to thank the coaches and everyone involved," he said. "It was a great effort against the odds and the fact that we continue to operate in the national leagues says much for abilities of the coaching team and the determination of the players."

The club, he said, had enjoyed a good season and reduced debts. Now they wanted to look ahead and explore more options.

It seemed likely, said Mr Nelmes, that local businessman Joe Betty would take the vice-chairman's role while a number of new committee members were expected to be elected. "There's plenty to be done and plenty of work for everyone," he said.

Mr Nelmes said the end of season presentation evening had been well attended and was a great success. " There was a friendly and very relaxed atmosphere. It was a nice end to the season," he said.
