YORKLEY rang with the sound of a spirited football match on Boxing Day, when the 13th annual Mark Burgess memorial match took place.

As normal, the two sides comprised the ’blues’, staffed by family, friends and ex team mates of Mark, playing against a Yorkley selected side, the ’reds’.

Sadly, the blues, managed by Bobby Saunders, lost the game, which was refereed by Barry Jessop, by five goals to one. Scoring were Adam Tyler for the blues, while Lewis Edwards, Dan Philips and Tom Sollis put in one each, and Andy Remmnant managed two, for the reds.

After the match the teams, officials and friends retired to the Nag’s Head for some liquid refreshment, plus food, which was created by Myra Byett.

A draw and auction then took place, and raised £1,284.

The money, which was presented by Yorkley AFC chairman Mark Hudson to Mark Burgess’s mum Iris, was promptly returned to Mr Hudson, to help with his mobility problems in the face of a rare progressive form of Parkinson’s Disease.
