FJ Pope Cup Final
Ellwood Res 1-0 Soudley
---
NORTH Gloucestershire Division leaders Ellwood Reserves dashed the league and cup double dreams of Third Division champions Soudley.
But their own hopes of the double are still very much on.
A single goal by Ellwood’s Daniel Lord was enough to take the trophy for teams in the two lower divisions in a hard-fought game at Harrow Hill’s Larksfield Road ground on Friday evening (April 23).
North Gloucestershire League executive committee member Max Morgan presented the FJ Pope Cup to Ellwood skipper Josh Sladen and the Division Three trophy to Soudley.
Soudley won all their games until March when thy went down to the first of two defeats.
Ellwood’s attention will now turn to the league where they currently lead Staunton and Corse Reserves on goal difference with just two games of the season left to play.
The two face each other tonight (Wednesday) at Staunton where victory in their penultimate game would all but seal the double given their 20-goal advantage over the home side.
The season ends this Saturday (April 27) with Ellwood playing away to third-placed Whitecroft A while Staunton entertain sixth-placed Milkwall Reserves.
