Ellwood Reserves 6-1 Longhope

----

IT’S been four months since Ellwood Reserves last lost a game and on Saturday the Division Two leaders had the opportunity to square things.

Longhope inflicted the 3-2 defeat on October 13 but the weekend’s 6-1 win kept Ellwppd six points ahead of second-placed Staunton and Corse Reserves.

Ellwood set out their stall against a strong Longhope side with two early goals from Mark Wayman.

Ellwood looked comfortable but a rash challenge in the box saw Longhope offered a chance to half the deficit.

Steve Clark duly put the spot kick past Ellwood keeper Jason Saunders, giving the Longhope boys some hope of getting back into the game.

The comeback was short-lived with a goal from Dan Lord putting Ellwood 3-1 up at half time.

After the break the was some good, gritty football played by both sides but Ellwood were just too much for Longhope to handle.

A goal from Josh Sladen and two from Liam Saunders, made it 6-1 to Ellwood. at the end of an excellent game played in the right spirit, and well refereed.

Staunton – who have two games in hand kept up the pressure with a 1-0 win over third-placed Whitecroft A.

Yorkley are a point beind Whitecroft after a 1-4 win at Ruardean Hill Rangers A.

Longhope are in fifth and a 1-5 win at Bream Amts Reserves meant that Milkwall Reserves leapfrogged Rank Outsiders into sixth.

The Outsiders drew 2-2 at Mushet and Coalway United Reserves.

That was also the scoreline at Viney St Swithins in the battle of the basement with Lydbrook Athletic A.
