FIVE pupils at a Cinderford secondary school have gained representative honours with various elite sports clubs.
Among the girls at the Forest High School is Year Nine student Sophie Wicks who has proved invaluable when playing football in fixtures on most weekends with Cinderford Town under-14s boys and girls.
These experiences have equipped her to be selected to represent Cheltenham Town Girls under-14s team. She has trained relentlessly with the girls and played several games in the last few months and has shown a committed approach that has meant her selection comes as little surprise to her teachers.
She said: “I am feeling proud to have achieved what I have done so far. However I am determined to keep going and improve my standards to hopefully reach the very top.”
Also in Year Nine, Mckenzi Sheen and Charlie Manns have recently been selected to represent Gloucestershire County under-15s girls’ rugby along with Year 10 students Carli Powell and Elle Jay Browning.
The girls have demonstrated a great attitude in transferring the successes of the last two years at schools and clubs level into county honours. This was further enhanced recently when Charlie Manns was selected to captain the county side which is a great achievement for a student in their first year of county representative rugby.
Mr Hopkins, head of PE, added: “I am really proud of all the girls. Their hard work and determination has really paid off. Well done to them all.”
