Whitehouse Press North Gloucestershire League Division Two

Milkwall Reserves 1-0 Whitecroft A

---------

OUTSTANDING performances by the two goalkeepers meant that this game was decided by a single goal.

Both sides had plenty of chances throughout an entertaining game, but came up against two in-form stoppers.

Milkwall’s Graham Grindle said: “Both sides played some really good football and with the number of chances it could easily have been four or five all.

“The keepers were outstanding and made some brilliant saves.

“It was a very good game to watch.”

The decisive goal came 10 minutes before half-time and was scored by Billy Jessop.

The visitors had been on the attack but Mark Squire won possession and laid on the ball to Scott Meredith.

Meredith knocked the ball to the edge of the area where it was picked up by Jessop who rounded the defender to score.

Whitecroft had started the day two points behind leaders Ellwood Reserves who extended their lead at the top of Division Two with a 1-1 draw at Mushet and Coalway United Reserves.

Milkwall remain in sixth after sixth-placed Rank Outsiders won 1-4 at Viney St Swithins.

It was a good day for Longhope – and a bad one for bottom side Lydbrook Athletic A – who scored 14 unanswered goals.

Steve Clark scored an incredible seven goals and there were two each for Robert Clark, Marc Innes and Ben Moss.

Substitute James Barnes completed the scoring.

In the division’s other games, Yorkley beat Redbrook Rovers Reserves 2-4 and Bream Amts Reserves won 2-3 away to Ruardean Hill Rangers A.
