North Gloucestershire League Division One

Yorkley 2-2 Longhope

---

YORKLEY played host to Longhope on Saturday with both teams going into the game looking for a much-needed win.

The hosts started the game on the front foot putting the visitors’ defence under pressure.

In the 15th minute, a good move down the left resulted in Troy Morgan squaring the ball back for Bradley Meredith to smash home and put the home side 1-0 up.

From the restart Longhope started to get more into the match and pressed to get back on terms.

From one such attack the home defence couldn’t clear, resulting in Longhope levelling the game.

With 10 minutes remaining of the half, Longhope went in front from a cross down the right.

Longhope’s scorers were Steve Clark and Callum McCulloch.

The second half started with the home side pressing hard for the equaliser and chances were coming, but were not taken.

It looked like Longhope would survive as the half wore on, but with just seven minutes to go Yorkley finally got the goal they deserved.

Will Brice threaded a defence- splitting ball through to Troy Morgan who chipped the advancing keeper to make it 2-2.

Yorkley did have a great chance to snatch a winner in the last minute but failed to convert.

Yorkley’s manager Dean Morgan said: “This season has been really frustrating as we have not been able to field our strongest team, with key players either working or out injured.

“This has certainly affected our league position.

“But we have managed to run a second team again this season which is great for the club.

“Mark Squires the second team manager has come in and done an excellent job.”
