A NEW, young football team from the Forest, braved 70 mph winds recently to beat Charfield Whites 3 - 2.

At one point the winds became so strong that they blew the goal posts over, which happened three times, before two adults had to be positioned on each goal to hold them in place for the remainder of the game.

A spokesman told the Review: "Ellwood under-13s is a brand new team up set up in the 2014-2015 football season, and currently playing in the Gloucester Midi League on Saturday mornings.

"In your first season as a new team it is really hard to play against the more established teams, but Ellwood under-13s have worked really hard this season and have won the last four league games in a row so we are very proud of them.

"We are also very proud that we have currently have team players from seven different Secondary Schools from the Crypt to Dene Magna, Lakers, Monmouth, Cinderford, Lydney and Wyedean, and from all over the Forest of Dean.

"This is what football can give to them, being part of a team, making friends, plus the social side of it, improving physically, techniquely, mentally and getting out in the fresh air and having fun on a Saturday morning.

"New players for all three of the Ellwood Youth teams are being invited, so anyone interested in the under-13s, under-nines and under-sixes teams, should contact head coach Nick Housden on 07920 442624."

They can also be contacted via their Facebook page, Ellwood Youth FC. Anybody interested in sponsoring teams can call Jason on 01594 837733.
